The Motor Market Heathens picked up their first three league points of the year in front of a bumper crowd on a successful return to Monmore Green.
Team manager Will Pottinger was pleased with his side's performance and was quick to pay tribute to the Wolverhampton track staff.  Said Pottinger: "We have to applaud everyone who worked tirelessly to ensure tonight's meeting went ahead and it has to be said, they did a cracking job.  "They created an excellent racing surface and huge credit to them after all the rain we've had over the past few days.  "A winning start was always the aim for us and it certainly settles the nerves.  "We won't get carried away with the result and we won't read too much into it because there's obviously a long, long way to go.  "It was a mixed night score wise for the lads individually but it's important to remember this is only the first meeting and I felt there were plenty of encouraging signs that bode well for the rest of the season.  "We'll definitely take the positives and the confidence that the win has given us a group but there's also things we can work on for when Rye House visit in a fortnight's time."
Top two Max Clegg and Ashley Morris both lived up to expectation as they went unbeaten by an opposition rider while Luke Chessell dropped just one point on his return to the Heathens side.
Ben Basford and James Purchase both enjoyed encouraging debuts with the pair combining for an important 5-1 in heat eight.
Bradley Andrews and Jack Kingston both had tough openers on a night where they fell on five occasions between them but at the same time showed glances of their potential.

CRADLEY boss Will Pottinger praised every member of his side after seeing them work hard for a 53-36 Travel Plus National League win over Rye House at Monmore.  The Motor Market side went into the meeting without the unavailable Jack Kingston and alarm bells were ringing early on when James Purchase was brought down in two separate incidents and was close to pulling out.  But Purchase rode through the pain barrier and with the big guns all in the points, Pottinger’s men pulled clear to make it two wins from two so far in front of another bumper crowd.  He said: “It’s a great credit to all the lads, this result. From the top three down to Brad Andrews, everyone played their part. “I’m really pleased with the effort, the team spirit is brilliant, everyone seems to be getting along great and we’re looking forward to getting Jack Kingston back. “Credit too to the track staff yet again, the track had to be pumped on the morning and yet we saw some breathtaking moves from the lads. There’s a long way to go this season, but we are pleased so far.  “James was taken down twice but he bounced back and put a great shift in for the team. Everyone deserves great credit and thanks to our fans who turned out in force again.”
Ashley Morris was unbeaten going into the last race but his hopes of a maximum were ended by Ben Morley, who managed to split the Heathens duo with skipper Max Clegg this time up-front.
Heathens now head to local rivals Birmingham for their next league fixture next Wednesday, before hosting King’s Lynn at Monmore on April 25.

CRADLEY's unbeaten start to 2016 came to an end as they suffered a 55-35 defeat at the hands of reigning Champions Birmingham.  The Motor Market Heathens anticipated a stern test against their local rivals who had won their four previous fixtures in convincing style.
While the Heathens won their fair share of heats at Perry Barr, failure to register a single race advantage proved very costly for the former Dudley Wood outfit.
Heathens Star Luke Chessell said: "We knew coming to Birmingham was going to be tough; they're in great form, they've got a super strong team and credit to them.  "It's important that we don't dwell too much at all on tonight's result - we need to wipe it out of our minds and focus on our next meeting.  "We've got King's Lynn at home next Monday - that's going to be another challenge for the team but hopefully we can keep our unbeaten start at home going."
Chessell, Ashley Morris and skipper Max Clegg were the only three riders to secure heat victories for the Heathens as the top trio all continued their powerful individual starts to the season.
While both Jack Kingston and Ben Basford deserved more points for their efforts after making some eye-catching gates, it was another tough night for Bradley Andrews and James Purchase who was struggling from a knock picked up against Rye House last week.

CRADLEY made it three home wins out of three with a 45-27 victory against King's Lynn.
The Motor Market Heathens maintained their 100% home record on a night of racing which was cut short due to a heavy downpour prior to heat 13.  After the visiting Young Stars' No.1 Tom Stokes took the chequered flag in the opener, the Heathens went on to secure the remaining 11 heat winners on another dominant night at Monmore Green.  Team manager Will Pottinger said: "After the disappointing result at Birmingham last week it was important that we bounced back tonight and we did just that.  "We managed to get our noses in front with a couple of heat advantages in the first few races and from there we just kicked on.  "Our top three continued their own good run of form and there were plenty of positive signs for the two reserves as well.  "Ben (Basford) got another race win under his belt and I was particularly pleased to see an improvement for Brad (Andrews) as well.  "A big thanks to Dan Bewley for guesting as well - he did a terrific job for us and he's a very talented young rider. "We've kept our run at home going and we'll head to Coventry a week on Friday full of confidence."
After a frustrating start to the night, Luke Chessell turned his meeting around to finish off with three straight wins to notch another double figure score at Monmore Green.
Ashley Morris went unbeaten from his three rides while Max Clegg and Dan Bewley both registered two wins apiece.
Ben Basford and Bradley Andrews both chipped in with useful contributions from reserve on an encouraging night all-round from the Motor Market Heathens.

CRADLEY suffered their second defeat of the season as they went down 51-39 against Coventry at Brandon.
The Motor Market Heathens paid the price for a nightmare start as they were forced to leave their second successive away meeting empty handed.  They lost reserve Bradley Andrews to a foot injury in heat two and were 10 points behind within the first three races, with their determined efforts not enough to earn a National League point.   It was a night to forget for Will Pottinger’s side as the determined Storm earned their first win of the campaign – and he admitted he was disappointed with the performance of his side.
Pottinger said: “It was a bad night at the office, we dropped too many points in the first three heats and couldn’t quite manage to recover from that slow start. “It’s disappointing to go home empty handed, and it’s frustrating when you look at all the points we dropped.  “Maybe with a bit more luck we could have got a consolation point, but nothing seemed to go our way.  “Ashley Morris did a great job and Ben Morley stepped in and did well too, so we don’t want to be too negative. “We need to try and get back to winning ways on Monday against the Isle of Wight, and we’ll be working hard to try and make sure we do that. “It was a shame to lose Bradley (Andrews) who hurt his foot, so we’ll have to wait and see what the verdict is to see if he’ll be fit for Monday.”
No.1 Ashley Morris led by example to go unbeaten in his final four rides, being involved in all three Cradley 5-1s as they frantically battled to snatch a consolation point.  He was partnered in heats 13 and 15 by Ben Morley, who put in a strong showing as he guested for Max Clegg and was denied a race win by bike troubles on the final lap of heat nine.  However, Luke Chessell was the only other Heathens rider to win a race when he majestically swooped around Dan Greenwood to hit the front in heat 10.  His middle order partner Jack Kingston endured a difficult evening, whilst Ben Basford took two rides to get going before finishing in encouraging fashion.
James Purchase, back in action after his short lay-off, battled valiantly but earned little reward as he was forced to take seven rides after the early loss of reserve partner Andrews.

CRADLEY maintained their unbeaten start at home with a hard fought 48-42 victory over the Isle of Wight.  In a close Travel Plus National League encounter throughout, no more than four points separated the two sides at any point.  But it was the Motor Market Heathens who dug deepest in a tense finale to come out on top and make it four wins on the spin at Monmore.
Team manager Will Pottinger said: "It was a really important win for us for a number of reasons and we'd have accepted a victory of any margin prior to the start.  "Firstly, the Isle of Wight were strengthened a lot with their guests of Dan Bewley and Tom Perry and that was always going to make it a much closer meeting and so it proved.  "More importantly though we wanted to bounce back from what was a bitterly disappointing result at Coventry on Friday and I'm really pleased we managed to do so.  "It was nip and tuck all the way through but the team did well to finish off strongly with three 4-2's in the final five races.  "We showed a lot of character to get back to winning ways and it's a shame we've got a two week break now but at least we're going into it on a bit of a high."
Club skipper Max Clegg played a true captain's role as he top scored for the Heathens, securing three wins on his way to 14 points from six rides.
Ben Morley proved a vital, reliable guest once again as he bagged double figures while Luke Chessell displayed another solid showing in the heat leader position.
Reserve James Purchase demonstrated a much improved performance as he secured his highest score in Heathens colours.
Ben Basford put in another encouraging showing in his first home meeting in the main body of the team while guest reserve Joe Lawlor did himself proud on another National League outing for the youngster.

CRADLEY pulled off an impressive late show to beat Coventry 52-38 and move onto level points with neighbours Birmingham at the top of the National League.
Just four points separated the two sides with three races to go, before three successive heat advantages ensured the Motor Market Heathens maintained their 100 per cent home record.
The hosts were inspired by the powerful heat-leader trio of Max Clegg, Ashley Morris and Luke Chessell once again as they bagged 40 of Cradley's 52 points between them. Heathens co-promoter Gary Patchett said: "We were run pretty close and made to work hard in the first two thirds of the meeting but we're always confident of having a strong finish and that proved to be the case once more tonight.  "This team was built very top-heavy so there is that expectation of course but our top three lived up to the pressure again and it was another big win.  "We won by 14-points in the end but in all honesty it could and probably should have been by even more.  "But for a couple of slide-offs or mechanical problems when in heat advantage positions, we would have been much nearer 60.  "It's always nice to get one over Coventry and it's another important home win ahead of what is going to be a tough weekend on the road."
Both Max Clegg and Ashley Morris went unbeaten by an opposition rider and combined for match winning 5-1's in heats 13 and 15.  Clegg allowed Morris underneath him in both of those races after a perfect demonstration of team riding kept former Heathen Dan Greenwood in third.
Morris also broke the Monmore National League track record in a time of 55.31 in the opening heat.
Luke Chessell recovered from bike problems in his first outing to reel off three straight wins on another impressive night at No.3.
James Purchase made another solid contribution at reserve and will probably be slightly disappointed to miss out on his first double figure tally after dropping points when in scoring positions.
Ben Basford had another steady night in the main body of the team while Bradley Andrews endured a tough first night back from injury.

CRADLEY experienced another difficult evening on their travels as they went down 55-35 against Eastbourne at Arlington.
The Motor Market Heathens remain on the lookout for their first away points of the season after being well beaten by the Eagles.
It was a night to forget for Will Pottinger’s side as they faced arguably their toughest test of the season around the tricky Arlington track.  Pottinger admits they will be keen to take the positives and move on – starting immediately as they travel to Buxton in the Knockout Cup on Sunday (3pm).   Said Pottinger: “We were pretty close for the majority of the meeting, but they came on strong in the last three heats and made the scoreline bigger than it perhaps should have been.  “We matched them in terms of race wins but we just had too many lasts places unfortunately which cost us. “We’ll move on and go to tomorrow’s meeting at Buxton looking to make up for tonight’s disappointment and get a good result.”
Ashley Morris and Max Clegg both bagged double figures for the visitors, despite coming up against the imperious Adam Ellis, who struck a paid maximum for the Eagles.
Middle order man Luke Chessell also added a creditable eight and bagged two impressive race wins.
However, the remaining three Heathens’ riders all struggled to make an impact as Ben Basford, Bradley Andrews and James Purchase all ended with two points apiece.

CRADLEY staged a dramatic late fightback to snatch a 44-44 draw from the first leg of their Knockout Cup tie with Buxton at the D&P Raceway.
The Motor Market Heathens trailed throughout the meeting before top two Max Clegg and Ashley Morris struck vital 5-1s in heats 13 and 15 to take a share of the spoils.  Clegg was in imperious form throughout, striking a faultless 18-point maximum, whilst Morris recovered from a fall in his opening ride to partner him superbly in the closing stages.  With Ben Basford and Luke Chessell also battling to solid contributions and James Purchase winning heat two, it was an encouraging performance from the Heathens.
After suffering a heavy defeat at Eastbourne the previous evening, team boss Will Pottinger was delighted to emerge with their best away result of the season so far.
Having seized control of the tie, he is keen to see them book their place in the next round of the Knockout Cup with victory over the Hitmen in the second leg at Monmore Green on Monday, June 13 (7.30).
Pottinger said: “We managed to stay pretty close throughout, and I was always confident that with Ash (Morris) and Max (Clegg) in heats 13 and 15 we’d finish the meeting strongly.
“There were some good performances from the lads. Max was immaculate to end with a full maximum and Ash bounced back well from a crash in heat one.  “We were really pleased with Ben Basford’s performance as well, and Luke (Chessell) contributed with some solid points on a track which isn’t one of his favourites.  “We’re happy with the draw, it puts us in a great position ahead of the second leg at Monmore Green in a couple of weeks where we’ll be looking to get the job done and reach the next round.”
The Heathens will be back in National League action as they take on King’s Lynn at the Adrian Flux Arena on Wednesday, June 8 before returning to Monmore Green the following Monday for the second leg of their cup tie with Buxton.

CRADLEY endured another night to forget on their travels as they went down 51-39 at King’s Lynn.
The Motor Market Heathens remain on the lookout for their first away points of the season in the National League after a disappointing defeat at the Adrian Flux Arena.
It was a familiar tale for Will Pottinger’s side as they were in the mix throughout but were unable to claim a consolation point to show for their efforts.
Their in-form top three all bagged double figures – but their lower order struggles were highlighted against a strong all-around Young Stars side.
Team boss Pottinger admitted he was frustrated by a poor performance which saw them run 11 last places.  Pottinger said: “We’re very disappointed, and when you look at the score chart there were just too many last places again.  “It was pretty much a mirror of our away match at Eastbourne, and you just aren’t going to get enough heat advantages with that many last places unfortunately.  “The heat-leaders scored 33 points between them so you can’t argue with their contributions, but we are again leaving an away meeting without any points.  “We really need to start picking up some points away from home, and we are obviously very disappointed we haven’t managed to do that. “We just need to pick ourselves up again and move on against Buxton on Monday to make sure we qualify for the next round of the Cup.”
Skipper Max Clegg and No.1 Ashley Morris both raced to three wins apiece to lead the side, whilst Luke Chessell continued his fine form to bag double figures with a solid display.  However, James Purchase and Ben Basford both struggled to make an impact whilst battling youngster Bradley Andrews failed to score on a tough evening.
The Heathens will be back in action when they host the second leg of their Knockout Cup tie with Buxton at Monmore Green on Monday (7.30).
With the scores tied after the first leg, Pottinger’s side will be keen to bounce back from their King’s Lynn disappointment to book their place in the next round.

CRADLEY needed a last heat decider to edge through to the next round of the Knockout Cup with a 46-42 win over Buxton.
The Motor Market Heathens fought back from eight points down to secure back-to-back, last gasp 5-1's to edge a dramatic encounter at Monmore Green. Max Clegg and Ashley Morris were the heat 15 heroes once again as the Heathens wrapped up a 90-86 aggregate victory. The former Dudley Wood outfit could and should have sealed a much more comfortable win, but let a number of points slip on a tough night. A relieved team manager Will Pottinger said: "We made hard work of it at times but we're through and that's all that matters. "We threw some silly points away at times and we should have had it wrapped up way before we did. "We were hit with rain just minutes before the meeting was due to start and the conditions proved tricky for a couple of the lads.  "We need to learn from tonight's meeting but right now we're just happy to have got another win."
Club captain Max Clegg inspired the Heathens to their sixth straight home win with an untouchable 15-point maximum.
Ben Basford recovered from a spill in his first outing to secure his highest tally in the main body of the team on another night of improvement for the Middlesbrough based racer.
Luke Chessell finished off with two wins out of three after suffering two exclusions in his opening pair of races.
James Purchase chipped in with another vital contribution from reserve - but was taken to hospital for x-rays on his collarbone after the meeting following an awkward, heavy tumble after being collected by Buxton's Shelby Rutherford in heat 14.
Ashley Morris endured a frustrating night mechanically, but showed his class by pulling off a great move up the inside of Nathan Greaves in the final heat to help secure victory for the Heathens.
While Layne Cupitt failed to score on his debut, his effort was clear for all to see and there were plenty of encouraging signs for the teenager.

CRADLEY boss Will Pottinger was full of praise for his side after their 50-38 win over Eastbourne at Monmore Green.
The Motor Market Heathens put in their best performance of the season so far to come out on top in an incident-packed encounter.  The hosts were forced to work hard against a strong Eagles side sat second in the National League table before eventually preserving their unbeaten home record.   Despite the visitors being hit by the losses of Jake Knight and Charley Powell due to crashes, Pottinger was thrilled with the determination shown by his side to capitalise upon their misfortune. “We’re really satisfied with that result, because we’ve certainly had to work hard,” said Pottinger.  “We had a little bit of luck with Jake Knight and Charley Powell getting injured, but we’ve had our fair share of bad luck this season and we still have to make the most of it. “To win by 12 points is an excellent result for us, and it denies Eastbourne any points as well which is good.”
Skipper Max Clegg was in imperious form for the hosts, reeling off four straight wins after suffering bike problems in his first ride. He won heats 13 and 15, including a daring blast around Adam Ellis to hit the front in the final race.
Ashley Morris also impressed, partnering Clegg for a 5-1 in heat 13 to wrap up victory, whilst Luke Chessell notched paid double figures in the No.3 race jacket.
Debutant Richard Andrews also recorded a race win and demonstrated plenty of encouraging signs against his former club.
Ben Basford notched paid seven before crashing out of his final ride, but it was Bradley Andrews who arguably made all the difference with a paid nine point haul at reserve, the highest score of his Heathens career so far.
Lower order partner Layne Cupitt also ended a tough evening on a high with an excellent ride to round Luke Harris for third place in heat 14.

CRADLEY picked up a hard fought 47-43 win at Sheffield - but it was at a cost.
Ben Basford faces a spell on the sidelines after suffering concussion and whiplash in a crash in heat 11.  That was the only real down point for the Heathens who enjoyed an encouraging night ahead of Sunday's Travel Plus National League trip to Rye House.
Club No. 1 Ashley Morris said: "This was always about getting some extra track time in on a track we're not used to and it was a good workout overall.  "We all showed some positive signs and the win was just a bonus.  "We took it down to a last heat and me and Max got the job done with a 5-1.  "It's a shame what happened to Ben but he'll bounce back and we'll be full of confidence heading to Rye House."
Morris dropped just one point to an opponent on another top night for the young, Brit.  Fellow heat-leaders Luke Chessell and Max Clegg also chipped in with double figures to help the Heathens on their way to victory. Bradley Andrews enjoyed another solid showing at No.7 while fellow reserve Layne Cupitt picked up his first heat win in Cradley colours. Ben Basford won heat eight before being withdrawn while Richard Andrews endured a night to forget despite plenty of effort.

CRADLEY bagged their first away points of the season with an impressive 52-38 win at Rye House.  With Ben Basford and James Purchase missing through injury, the Motor Market Heathens dug deep to pick up all four points to boost their play-off chances.
Boss Will Pottinger praised his side and admits there is a feel good factor throughout the team again.  "A win was always the target here and we're really pleased with the margin of the result," Pottinger said. "We always felt that with the make up of the Rye House team, this was somewhere we looked stronger on paper and credit to the lads for delivering on track.  "To win 10 of the 15 races with the heat-leader trio they've got is a great stat and for everyone to minimise the last places was a great team effort.  "We're suddenly full of confidence with our new-look line-up and we're really looking forward to the second half of the season."
Top duo Max Clegg and Ashley Morris were in dominant form once again, with the pair also combining for the final heat 5-1 which secured maximum league points for the Heathens.

Bradley Andrews bagged his highest score in British Speedway as he continued to prove a point to the Cradley management who dropped him from the side last month.  Luke Chessell and Richard Andrews provided the Heathens with some solid support in the middle part of the team while Layne Cupitt deserved more points for his efforts at reserve.  The Heathens will look to close the gap on the Travel Plus National League's top two when they host Mildenhall at Monmore Green on Monday, July 11.

CRADLEY produced another solid team performance to maintain their unbeaten home record with a 52-38 win over Mildenhall. The result moved the Motor Market Heathens up to second place in the Travel Plus National League, leaving them just one point behind Midland rivals Birmingham.  Team manager Will Pottinger praised his side as they made it five wins on the spin in all competitions.  "We're very pleased with the result tonight; there's room for a few improvements but the main thing is we continued our recent momentum.  "We provided 10 of the 15 race winners and we secured a good number of important second and third places as well to back them up.  "We look a lot more comfortable and balanced since we've added a link between the heat-leaders and reserves and there's definitely plenty to build on.  "We're ticking along nicely of late and hopefully we can go to Stoke on Saturday and get another result."
Max Clegg and Ashley Morris both continued their dominance as they went unbeaten by the opposition. Captain Clegg stormed to a full 15 point maximum while Ashley Morris enjoyed another impressive night, equaling his own Monmore National League track record in heat one in a time of 55.31.
Richard Andrews continued to settle into the Heathens line-up as he achieved double figures for the first time in the famous red, green and white.
Bradley Andrews was kept a busy man once again as he took all seven of his of his available outings contributing another handy tally from the No.7 spot.
Luke Chessell endured one of his tougher nights of the season while Layne Cupitt ended up on the deck three times on another difficult appearance for the youngster.
The Heathens head to Loomer Road on Saturday as they aim to secure their second away victory of the campaign.

CRADLEY stormed to their biggest win of the 2016 season as they thrashed Buxton 58-32 at Monmore Green.
The Motor Market Heathens overcame tricky track conditions after a last-minute downpour just before tapes up to climb back up to second in the National League table.  It was another powerful performance from Will Pottinger’s side as they delivered 13 race wins – and team boss Pottinger was delighted to make it five wins on the spin in competitive fixtures.  Said Pottinger: “We were really happy with that in the end, because the last time we had a wet track it caught us out.  “It was a great result, our biggest win of the season, and everyone put in good performances so we’re very happy. “Ever since Richard Andrews has come into the team, he’s given us a bit more strength, and we have Ben Basford back now which gives us a boost.  “There are plenty of positives to go forward, and after continuing our recent unbeaten run we’re in a healthy position in the league table. Ashley Morris struck a stunning full maximum for the home side whilst skipper Max Clegg also went unbeaten from five rides.  Third heat-leader Luke Chessell was only denied a paid maximum of his own when was forced to settle for second place behind ex-Heathens rider Ellis Perks in heat 12.
Richard Andrews and Ben Basford both made excellent contributions, with Basford bagging two race wins early on as he returned from his short injury lay-off.  Bradley Andrews also improved as the night progressed whilst Layne Cupitt scored a useful two points from three outings as No.8. After maintaining their unbeaten home record, the Heathens will travel to the Isle of Wight next Thursday, August 4 (7.30).  They will then host their showpiece F.A.S.T Golden Hammer individual event on Tuesday, August 9 (7.30).
