Full name: Dennis Hitchings
Birthplace: Hereford, Herefordshire, England
Birthdate: 26th April 1925
Career Record with Cradley
Dennis was yet another discovery from Doug McLachlan's winter training school. He rode for Birmingham in 1949 and 1950 before dropping down to Division 2 with the Heathens in 1951, he stayed the whole season doing 35 matches in all (30 in league division2) but failed to make much of an impression but was nevertheless a useful reserve.
He drifted out at the end of the season due to domestic commitments and work
on the family farm. He actually won more trophies for his ploughing abilities on
his farm in Herefordshire. He won several third prizes before taking First prize
in a West Midlands Vintage Competition on his 1940 International W4 tractor.
He has since then had 62 firsts - 47 second places and 44 thirds!
He was 64 when he took up competition ploughing and competed in several countries.
He also ran a business in Ross on Wye selling second hand JCB's until later in his life.
Unfortunately Dennis passed away on February 13th 2020 aged 94
