 Profile...

Due to the timing of Cradley's closure between 1952 and 1960, the Heathens fans saw the career of 'Arry Bastable begin from novice level, rise to it's peak and then gradually fade through later years. At its height, Bastable was one-half of a fearsome partnership with Ivor Brown and the pair became the top two points scorers in the 1961 Provincial League.

A year earlier, Harry had caused quite a stir by leaving Leicester to rejoin his beloved Heathens when they eventually re-opened. It was a step down from the National league to the Provincial, and soon after he helped to convince Ivor to make the same move.

Harry's long career began at an Alan Hunt training school in 1949, which led to the Heathens snapping up his signature before loaning him out to Tamworth to gain experience. He took over as a Dudley Wood fans' favourite in 1951 after the departure of Hunt. His return more than eight years later then sparked a succession of five seasons with Cradley before the announcement of retirement. However, Bastable made no less than 16 more appearances in 1965 to cover for injuries at the Wood, before finally hanging up the leathers in the Summer of that year.
