Southern Area League Riders Champion 1959


Dave Hankins was a former cycle speedway rider.  He started riding speedway in the Southern Area League in the late 1950's with Brafield. In fact in 1959 Dave became the Southern Area League Riders Champion on 26th September 1959 with a 15 point maximum, beating Derek Timms 13 and Ivor Brown 12.
In 1961 Dave rode 13 matches for Leicester Hunters attaining an average of 3.17 but he crashed in a World Championsip Qualifing Round at New Cross and was taken to hospital with a suspected broken femur.

He joined the Heathens in April 1963 as reserve but rode only 2 matches, the first on 27th April at Dudley Wood against Wolverhampton where he failed to score from 2 rides.
His second appearance was at Long Eaton 3 days later, again he had 2 rides, this time for 1 point. This was his last match for Cradley.
