Profile...

Former cycle speedway star it was where local lad Archie made his name.  In 1959 he finished 4th in the British Championship, 2 years later Archie was in the Kingstanding Monarchs cycle speedway team who won the National Championship.
In 1974 he decided to open his own business making wheels, he later developed the Archie Wilkinson frames and sold millions of wheels over the years.  He later became one of the Brummies speedway sponsors - Wilkinson Wheels.

His speedway career started with a couple of guest appearances for Cradley on 15th September 1967 at Edinburgh and on 27th September 1967 at Belle Vue.
The following season he signed for the Heathens making his debut on 30th March 1968 and made 7 appearances for Cradley scoring 14 points and 8 bonus points for Cradley.
Bill Bridget spotted him and gave him a place in the Crayford team for the remaining 1968 season for their last 2 matches and he returned to Crayford for the 1969 season.
Archie went on to have 2 seasons at Birmingham in 1971 and 1972 but his form dipped and he had an unsuccessful spell at Crewe before deciding to call it a day.
A very hard working fellow, he suffered with dementia in later life but will be remembered as a very kind man.
