Andy Bearne was a product of the 1970/71 winter training school at Dudley Wood.
When Bob Andrews was a late arrival from Australia at the start of the 1971 season Andy was drafted in.

His first match was at Wolverhampton on 26th March having just one ride he failed to score ironically the Heathens lost this opening season challenge at Monmore Green by just one point!

He made his home debut the next day and failed to score from three rides. He rode just three more matches, at Hackney the following week where he had his best score of two points from three rides, the next night at Dudley Wood again he failed to score he was obviously finding the British League very tough and was dropped from the team

Andy made one more appearance, on 4th June at Monmore Green replicating his previous score of zero points from one ride
