Bruce was a local lad from the Cradley area who rode in the 1961 training schools.  He had a couple of second half rides in the Opportunity Stakes and did quite well, he was given a chance in the Provincial League Riders Championship Qualifying Round on 8th July and he did well to score five points.
The following week - 15th July he found himself in the team at reserve for the home match against Middlesborough, unfortunately he had falls in both his rides.  He failed to score in his next match at Stoke on 20th July and was replaced when Cradley bought in Stan Stevens.
He was called upon again when Cradley travelled to Bradford on 21st August and he got his best score of 3 points plus a bonus from 3 rides.  Because of this score he was put in the team again at Bradford on 2nd October but this time only scored 1 point.

Bruce has had a very successful Insurance Company for many years in nearby Colley Gate.
