Career Record with Cradley
Originally a lorry driver, Bill was outstanding on the tracks in war time Italy. He joined Wembley in 1948 when he left the services but was unable to make the grade in the Lions side but when he was loaned to Cradley in September he made an immediate impression and rode 17 times before the end of October.
He rode better at Dudley Wood than most other tracks his lowest score during the time was five and on three occasions scored eight points.
The move up to Division two in 1949 however was a little too much for Bill and his average dropped. He stayed in the team until June but after picking up just five points from his last four matches Bill moved back to Division 3 with Oxford where he stayed for five seasons. A good middle order rider with the Cheetahs he clocked up more than 150 appearances.
