Dick was the oldest of the three brothers, he actually started racing at Belle Vue in 1938/39 before the war interrupted his career it was 1946 when he joined Birmingham and it was Dick who introduced younger brother Les to the Brummies in 1947 after teaching him the basics at the back of the family garage business in Grafton Flyford, Worcestershire.

He rode for Birmingham again in 1947,1948 and 1949 then joined Tamworth in 1950 before joining up with brother Les and Jim at Dudley Wood in 1951.

Dick was skilled in all sorts of motorcycling trials, scrambling, hill climbs and grass track.  Apart from being a great speedway rider he was the life and soul of the party when the team travelled to away tracks.  Once on a trip to Glasgow the team was thrown out of the hotel when Dick mixed up all the shoes outside the rooms!

Update... Sadly Dick passed away in the early 60's he was aged only 47.
