Shelby first came to the UK from Australia in 2009, he was promised a place in the Redcar Cubs team but unfortunately the promoters decided not to run the Cubs, so Shelby was found a place in the Newport side. He fifnished that season with an average of 4.64.
He made up his mind not to return to the UK until 2014/2015.
Shelby arrived here in March 2016 with his family and girlfriend. He has dual nationality and a British passport so he is able to ride in the National League and was fixed up at Buxton.

When Ryan Burton was injured at Scunthorpe in June, Will Pottinger was talking to Buxton manager Jason Pipe when he mentioned Shelby may become available, he was quickly signed to replace Ryan. He had lost confidence at Buxton and starting at reserve for the Heathens would give him an opportunity to regain his form.
He made his debut at Stoke on 2nd July and his home debut against his former team Buxton the following night.  He scored 4 points from 3 rides at Stoke and 3 and a bonus from 4 at Monmore Green.  Without capitalising on these scores in his next 3 matches he was dropped from the team in favour of Tyler Govier who had become available.  So his career with Heathens was short.
